Fireplace Demolished!

This is probably one of the projects I'm most proud of!!! My first demolition job! It's the small things, right?! But this most definitely didn't feel like a small thing at the time.

We began with SUCH an eyesore of a fireplace. This was in NO way an original feature. A concrete mantelpiece. A brick surround. An old gas fireplace. NOT the stuff house-renovation dreams are made of!

There were no two ways around this. That baby had to come out....buuuuuuuuuut because of a minimal just-moved-house-and-our-piggy-bank-is-empty budget, the smasher-downer for this project was going to have to be me!

We bought safety glasses, a brick chisel and a mallet, and I set to work. I do need to emphasise that I've never done this kind of demolition work before so I was pretty nervous starting out....

If my way of doing it looks laughably wrong then that's probably because it was!!! But it got the job done and I'm still in one piece! And, possibly more importantly, so is the house!

{Note my slightly hysterical use of excessive exclamation marks in this post!!}

And, you know what? We actually had a lot of fun doing it.
