Modern Country Crafts: China Jack Mosaics

Have you heard of China Jack Mosaics? They make hand-crafted gorgeous Union Jack mosaics from vintage china and printing blocks.

{I realise the clue is in the name. See, I'm clever like that...}

Did someone say Union Jacks AND printing blocks in the same sentence? I want one...I want one.....

Look at all the scrumptious details in the china....Seriously, they are completely lush.

And, for the more eagle-eyes among you, don't think I didn't spot Nigella's new Kitchen book on the table in the photo below.

{Any friend of Nigella is a friend of mine.}

{Okay, I should tell you, if you don't know already, I have a thing about Nigella...did you not see my Nigella shrine?!}

And I'm completely liking the way the mosaics have been styled. I want that red radio too.

{I can always hear my teacher's voice at this point saying, "I want doesn't get....."}

Now, let me think for a second....do I love Union Jacks? Errr, yes!

Do I love gorgeous crafts....Errr, yes!

Do I love repurposed vintage loveliness? Errrr....yes!

It's a no-brainer....these are right up my street.

 It's official: I love China Jack! The only question is...which mosaic to pick?! What do you think?

Voting starts......now!

  4. What a fabulous idea, are you buying one? I think I would choose the one that is the nearest in colour to the real thing. Difficult to tell from the photos, as some of the china looks too pink. Maybe the first one?

    Thanks for your recent kind words on LindyLouMac's Book Reviews. I hope you will be back to let us know what you think of Her Fearful Symmetry?

    Have a good week.

  5. Oh wow, these are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing! I have the mr and mrs mugs in the 2nd photo!
    I think my favourite is the tea one.

    Totally off the subject, my DSLR is a nIkon D60 and I have Nikon 18 - 200mm lens and I love it! I got the camera first with a standard lens which was a fantastic way to begin, then a year later got the other lens which really stepped the quality of the photo's up a notch and of course gave me wider and longer angles.
    I can't recommend a dslr enough, it's a great new hobby! x

  12. I too love the you & me one. Funny, forgot to tell you. One day I was on here and my 9yr old daughter was looking, she saw your UJ pillow and said, that lady sure likes England, I said, that's because she lives there! Her reply "Well, that makes sense". LOL!

  13. Hi Sarah!

    I have a computer for a 1/2 hour... I had to see what you all have been up to. 3 days without a computer... starting to get the shakes, haha. I just love the "tea" mosaic. Simple and a cute size.

    Hope your weekend was good and hope to pop back on in a few days!

    xx,
    ~Michelle

  14. Dear Sarah, These are indeed such fun. A touch of Blighty and reminiscent of the 1950s.I am not entirely sure where I could place one of these mosaics but I should be easily able to accommodate the pillar box red Roberts radio....anywhere!!!

  21. OOOOOh Sarah, I can't choose....They're lovely. I've always wanted to do some mosaicing myself - perhaps that can be my latest obsession.

    Btw, thank you for your recent comment (re the swimming cossie drama thingy). All shall be revealed once I finish filling out my appraisal form for work - which I should be doing now but I've been distracted by your lovely blog post. Toodle pip, old girl.

  22. The Tea one is my favorite. I adore Nigella as does my hubs. I drive a Mini and have thought of getting the Union Jack on the roof. That would be so neat.

  31. Those China Jacks are soooo cool, Sarah! Perhaps it's my (not so) mild obsession with all things English, but I've always loved the way the Union Jack looks. What a neat way to represent it! Now, I'm off to look up your Nigella shrine...I adore her. And I'm utterly thrilled she has a new show on the Food Network here in the U.S. Even my 3yo loves Nigella...and how can you not? That woman simply rhapsodizes about food and she's so fun to listen to. Anyway, I'll quit the rambling and be on my way!
