Small Gardens: Starting From Scratch

Hey, my lovelies,

If you have are starting from scratch, as we are here in our front garden in the Cotswolds, I can't recommend highly enough finding a good garden design company to help you on your way. Starting from scratch is something you only want to do once so why not get it right the first time?

Look at this amazing example? Isn't it incredible?
So beautifully put together.

That whole feeling of cohesion would be virtually impossible for an inexperienced hand to create. However, what *is* possible, is to begin to get a feel for what you like and don't like in order to be in a good place to create a brief for a designer to work with you....

...to help you end up with a garden that you LOVE.

I always think small gardens need MORE of a specialist eye, rather than less, because every spare inch counts. Every bit of ugliness shows up.
But every bit of great design stands out a mile.

So, the question I want to look at is:
what is it that gets us swooning in the garden here at
Modern Country Style?
{open-air bath-tubs aside...}

Shall we take a closer look?

  1. our yard is huge now in this new house and we would love a garden... getting started is going to be hard and we have to start small due to our small (zero) budget- thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Ha! I was like Courtenay in thinking that was your garden! I have been staring at our property for a few years now with visions of grandeur but there it sits. I think you are right, perhaps I need a nudge from a true expert. Well, I am going to follow you on this adventure closely!

  5. Now you have done it!! The garden you show is roughly the same shape as ours although smaller. I would absolutely love to achieve planting similar to the lush and gorgeous array in that garden. It gives me something to aim for.

  13. I am spoiled to have a sister in law who is a "master gardener." She is my free professional consultant. Lucky me.

It will be fun to watch your garden progress. How is the baby progressing these days?

  17. Ah- But small gardens can reach a level of perfection a larger garden cannot. Good luck.

  18. My husband and I have loved creating gardens and would never have dreamed of employing a garden design company even if it was within our budget. To us the garden is an extension of the home and it has always been DIY blended with TLC.

  19. If you want to have a beautifully landscaped garden and you’re starting from scratch, finding a good garden design company is definitely advisable. Choose a company who cannot only design a garden, but can also give service maintenance. Not all companies do these two things. So, if you want your garden to stay in good shape, then be mindful of choosing a design company that can deliver both these services effectively. ->Jeremy Beauregard

  21. That's so beautiful! Anyway, landscaping is not merely a daunting task. It's just a combination of being a nature-lover and having a creative mind. There are no rules on beautifying your garden as much as you enjoy what you're doing.
