Industrial Style Dining Room

This week, we'll be focussing on windows....

Let's start here:

The dining room is absolutely stunning. Feast your eyes on that enormous mirror, the magnificent table and those white chairs which soften the whole scheme.

I love the industrial feel of this space. The bare rick, the steel girders and the double (or is it triple?) height room.....BUT, I'll get to the point, what do you think about the undressed windows?

Yes, NAKED is what they are!

{*blush*}

The question on my mind is this: do all dining rooms needs some kind of window treatment...even if they are not overlooked?

  1. In this room, I think the naked windows work perfectly. They make a beautiful architectural statement!

  2. I love this room, and the industrial look in general. I think with this kind of room no window treatments are needed. It goes with the bare minimalistic look and adds to the drama!

  3. I love the exposed brick and dark hardwood floors. The naked windows go perfectly with this look. My home was built in 1913 and we have many naked windows. I just couldn't cover up all the beautiful details. :)

  4. I think it is just fine for the public rooms in a commercial building to leave the windows naked. However, nothing ruins a nice appearance than if the room does not adequately address sound attenuation- for which some fabric in a room should be introduced, even if it is on the ceiling.

Now- if this were a residence- there are privacy issues which go to the windows perhaps not wanting to be the only thing naked in the room):- A end solution on ultra-high end homes I've written about where the primary feature of a home is the vista are to inset shades or blinds operable by the touch of a button. They disappear completely from view, into the structure.

  5. My living room bay windows have had no curtains other than mini blinds. I have high hopes to redesign them and bring life to the windows ... it is looking rather bland to me. After 18 years of the same look, other than I painted around the bay 'inside window' a wonderful cranberry color.

  6. With the right bones it is a feature. Some windows with rounded shapes may also be difficult to drape. So it may look fantastic but how does it sound? That room must have acoustics plates in the ceiling or you would not hear a word. Also, a setting sun may be a nuisance to the eyes.

  7. O, I am a strong fan of beautiful windows without dressings. I don't care for CURTAINS at all...like blinds on some windows..plantation shutters are awesome for some windows...
    THESE windows are beautiful naked....

  8. Those particular windows look absolutely fabulous without coverings. In fact what you see out there is better than pictures on the walls, the view is really grand.
So there are definitely times and places where "naked" windows are a bonus.
    Have a great week.

  9. I'm French, so I don't mind a bit of nudity. My windows are bare if they're facing the garden. The one facing the street, though, has curtains for privacy.

  10. Here the "naked" makes sense.

If a dining room isn't overlooked I'd leave it without curtains... I like to look life passing outside and sometimes below. Really do. I know you shouldn't dream at the table but isn't it wonderful - magical - to watch all those lights and movement outside?!
