Soft Industrial House Of Yum


 I think we alI pretty much agree with you that the Kitchen of Serenity was utterly gorgeous but completely devoid of character. Like a very beautiful but lifeless mannequin.

I loved the feeling of calm though. I want some of that in my kitchen. If the space was mine, I'd just float around in a haze of tranquility.

{Plus, let's be frank, the floating-business would stop any dirty footprints on that pristine floor.}


But, still.....I love spaces that reflect the people that live in them and that wasn't one of them. Who wants to live a showroom? Oh, no takers?


I think that's why I love touches of soft industrial so much. Pieces with a past add a whole heap of personality.

In the next couple of weeks, I'll be sharing some of the things that I've used to add a bit of pizazz to the space we have.


I love the kitchen here...but the rest of the scrumptious house caught my roving eye as well so I sneaked that in just for you.

Yes, YOU!

{Ooooh, the postman just knocked on my door with an Amazon delivery. I got a little bit sidetracked with looking at my jaw-droppingly-luscious new book - I DEFINITELY feel a book review coming on. It's been a while since the last one, hasn't it?}


I want a clock like that. And when I say 'I want', I mean obsessively searching. What are they even called? If you have any ideas for UK sources then please will you let me know?

    Yes I like that kitchen a bit better. Very cozy and charming and the rest of the house is so full of character. I have no idea what kind of clock that is other than big ji-normous clock! ;) It is really beautiful. I bet you could make one dearie! :)

    a.dore. that kitchen...yum indeed. and the chesterfield sofa hanging out in the living room? i have the same thing in a club chair that i snagged on craigslist last year. now this home i could settle into.

    oh, yes, I love things with a past....my headboard in the bedroom is a pair of damaged armoire doors removed from a destroyed hutch after a house fire. The tops are a bit charred and the patina on the doors is amazing.

    Oh Miss Sarah, you seem to manage to post on a topic that is always close to my heart.

    I've been browsing online, looking at various styles to try to figure out how to include a bit of an industrial edge to my new (to be, one day, in the not too distant future, getting closer everyday now) kitchen.

    I love lots of new, love lots of white, love lots of neutrals, love a bit of colour here and there, love warmth, love character and how to combine it all with a bit of industrial thrown into the mix. This is fun!

    This place is gorgeous! Mmmm give me a touch of industrial with lovely colours and I am putty in your hands!

    That clock is COOL! Coach House has some giant industrial/rustic clocks but this one is something special. Let me know if you find something like that!

    Hi Sarah,
    I know, these extra big clocks have a magnetic force that keeps pulling my attention their way too. But then i stop and think about what a domating effect it would have on the space in which I place it and then I reconsider. So I'm still considering it, but now only thinking about either the front hallway or the parlor. And I'm sure the clock will find me eventually. Just as it will you.     The folding chairs in the last photo are fabulous! Wouldn't it be fun to have a table you could wheel in and out to sit at those?

    Hi Sarahx!

    It's fun to see people using less conventional ideas to decorating their homes. While, I liked the size of the last kitchen, this one definitely has more warmth and personality. I'd pick a few things from this kitchen and add them to the last. You can do that, right?!! :D

    Hope you find a clock you love. I have a clock fetish so I understand your quest. They call them GINORMOUS clocks, haha!

    Lots of lovely objets (ooh la la) in those pics. Love the different types of wooden furniture and those chairs in one of the pics are fantabulous. Not so sure about the display of what looks like tools in the bedroom, I'm finding that a bit bizarre.

    Now, Sarah, come on, get that crochet hook out again and get crocheting. There are lots of tutorials out there. I followed one on a blog called Do you mind if I knit. But Attic 24 is also tres tres bon. If I can do it with my clumsy fingers and my limited understanding of instructions, then I KNOW you can.

    Thanks for dropping in.. I almost wrote Queen Elizabeth.. now that would have stirred up the pot!! But caught myself.. I love the home you just showed.. it's amazing. I was in an acquaintances home this past weekend and although the house was exquisitely decorated.. it was just that a house devoid of personality because it lost it's character. Everything was brand new and there was nothing that showed age or continuity. Okay, it's just not my style.. Thanks for inspiring us.

    LOVE the dining area in the first image. Those chests of drawers, the mix of timber and chrome. I also love the warm greys on the some of the walls, with the fresh white. Just beautiful, and a little bit masculine.

    I love the clock you are searching for too. I make a couple of said faux clocks. There was a tutorial going on and I can't think of who did it. I will hunt for it but they looked like a picture that Pottery Barn had in their winter magazine a while ago. Now mind you they didn't have clock works but they were awesome.
    I will see if I can find where that was and send it too you.
