Bed: The Modern Country Style Way.........

I've had so many emails asking for details of our Modern Country bed linen that I thought it was worth posting about. I LOVE getting emails from you so I've answered all the enquiries separately but this one's going out to all you shy ones.....

All the bed linen is from The White Company who do *the* best home wares ever. Their bedding is so gorgeous that words (nearly) escape me.

The throw is quilted velvet and bordered with silk. It's so lovely and soft and warm and heavy.

The bed is made with two big square pillows at the back, propped up, and then two rectangular pillows leaning against them.

It makes me feel like the princess and the pea with all her layers and layers - eeerrrr......except there's no pea.....

I couldn't believe the number of emails I had from people telling me about their uncomfortable beds.

I will name no names but...............

Come on, girlies!!

You spend a third of your life (although I like to think I could potentially up this to two thirds, given half a chance....)  in your bed.

The choice I present to you is an easy-peasy one: comfy or no? Luxurious sanctuary at the end of a hard day or bed-springs in your back?

I had the very exciting honour of guest posting  at utterly gorgeous Jami's Freckled Laundry yesterday.

Thank you SO much to the lovely, generous Jami, an American sweetheart, for having me. I loved every single second of it.

  1. You're so right about the importance of bedding. I only bought bedding I love about 6 months ago, but everyday has been a little better since. I especially love bedding that looks good kinda rumpled up and not perfect.

  10. Hello my new sweet blog friend! Gotta tell you how much I love your bed all nestled into that space with that luxurious velvet spread. You are a girl after my own heart! I LOVE to have the weight of lots of covers on me when I sleep which is why I so love these cooler nights when it all just feels "so right" to layer it up! Thanks so much for joining the party again this week! You are a delightful addition for sure!

  24. Sarah -- thanks for your sweet comments :)

The trick for the soap in oil cruet is to use about 70% soap and 30% water, mixing it in the dishsoap bottle first. It works like a charm and still obviously cleans more than fine.

    Cheers

  25. I love my bed too! But never mind that, I'm also loving that suitcase at the foot of your bed. Mr J and P has one in the loft (it was his grandad's), maybe I should drag it out of there once and for all. Do you keep anything in it?

  26. I sent you an email and I hope you got it. I got an URL not valid message for some reason so I'm following up here, just in case.

The paint color is Sherwin Williams Svelte Sage. It's the same color used in the master bedroom of the HGTV Dream Home master bedroom. Address below

  27. This does look so luxurious! Reminds me of a high-end hotel. We have a queen-size bed that is only about four years old. But it has gotten terribly uncomfortable. We need to do something soon! Your home is so lovely!

  30. Hi Sarah, thank you for the lovely compliment on my pillows and trough. I found out later it's a boiler pot, haha who knew? First off, your blog is beautiful, and what lovely bedrooms you shared with us. Beautiful comforters and pillows too. Now onto my pillows you fancied, well...The back one is a burlap find from Tuesday Mornings. They may still have some left if you have that store in your area. The middle one is a quilted Waverly fabric but it's retired now as far as I know. My upholsterer made it to match my favorite chair I'll post later. And the third is a feather down pillow made by a local antique dealer, I got that one many years ago as well as the middle quilted. However looks are rather easy to mimic, a couple of florals mixed with a burlap, or a floral, a quilted, and a burlap. Easy peasy. I'm your newest follower, must follow lovely people as yourself, thanks again, tami from the high street cottage

  36. Hi Sarah, I didn't realize you were from the Cotswolds. It's one of the places on my list to visit. I love the cottages there. Thanks for the tip on gravy. My Mom made it that way too, and she made a white gravy, a country style, not sure if they do that in the U.K. but it's a southern thing, but popular for breakfast. I tried making it once, and it clumped up, I need to practice don't I? lol, thanks again for the lovely comments, tami

  37. Hi Sarah, Back to say thank you so much for joining Feathered Nest Friday and sharing this gorgeous bedding! It is just beautiful & cozy- and it looks wonderful in your room! :)

  38. Hey Sarah! Your bed is totally blissful! That comforter is just beautiful! It just makes you want to sink right down onto it....

I'm in to linen. I love the cool, crispness of it. This summer I bought a white linen Pottery Barn duvet cover that I just love. Beneath that is a white cotton blanket on top of crisp 250 count white sheets. Beneath the sheets is a 3" polyfill pillowtop mattress pad which is just heavenly to sleep on. I ADORE my hemp linen grain sack pillows on my bed paired with the white cotton slipped pillows. Oh yeah.....I LOVE my bed..... :)
