Hey peeps,
I don't know about you
but this gradual flip-flop from summer to autumn
has to take one of the top spots
in my book of weather-pattern-favourites.
{Not that I have a book of weather-pattern favourites.}
Honest.
I love the days of balmy warmth
that September in England does so well.
And I love the cooler evenings
that call out loud and clear
for snuggling on the sofa.
Speaking of snuggling,
after my last post on hugging,
it appears that we all speak as one mind when we say:
Mr Photographer, you are missing out.
Stop grumbling and get cuddling.
All this talk of hugging and snuggling
leads me on rather nicely
to the cosy warmth of the next part of this
Modern Country Style series,
which is.......
Step 3 Texture
Modern Country differs from Traditional Country in its limited use of pattern. But that doesn't mean a lack of visual appeal. Instead, interest comes from building up layers of texture. Simplicity is key.
Let's take a look at our Master Bedroom.
I wanted to create a 'Princess and the Pea' feel to the bed.
Remember that fairytale?
So I bought an incredibly plumptious
chocolate-grey velvet throw with a silk border.
One of my favourite things in the whole world.
Modern Country Style at its languorous best.
Natural materials work so well:
wood, velvet, cotton and linen
bring the warmth of the Country
to prevent the look from ever feeling stark.
At the end of the bed,
I've placed an old suitcase of my mother's,
which is perfect for storing seasonal bedding.
The battered leather contrasts with the sheen of
our mahogany sleigh bed.
Colour-wise, our Master Bedroom is very simple:
blocks of muted colour, with very little pattern...
but bring in so many layers of gorgeous texture
and it becomes my favourite place to be.
Now...I feel a bit of a pause coming on.
My children have gone back to school,
and I think it's high time for a bit of crafting action,
don't you?
Linking with my favourite link parties on the sidebar...
'plumtious' is a delectable word...and it describes your cozy bedroom perfectly!

Your bedroom is so cozy and the color is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteTexture is really important isn't it.
I've just recently been learning that.
Hugs, Cindy
It is a "beauticious" bedroom retreat and one that speaks with murmurs of peace and whispers of tranquility. How could one not relax and unburden the weight of the world in such a calming sanctuary ?
ReplyDeleteI would bet that it is also overflowing with positive creative energies
Wow, this bedroom is just so cosy and beautiful, I adore your velvet throw :) can't wait to see your crafty makes as well.
ReplyDeleteBee happy x
Have a delicious day!
Yes, crafting!!! I am restructuring some jeans to become a skirt; making my Christmas bunting (never too early as we all know); and fixing a bag which I've been meaning to do for yonks. Craft ahoy! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! What is the colour of the paint on the walls? I love it!
ReplyDeleteHello Sarah
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet comments - they mean a lot to me.
Any princess would find your bedroom hard to resist: the calmness, crispness and softness and so stylish.
Good night
Anna

What a cozy place that pillow is the sweetest!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, cozy and comfortable room! I love it.
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of hugs, I have been with my husband for 17 years, married for 7, we still cuddle, and hug. Something would be wrong if you did not hug your mate!
What a beautiful and calming room. Oh and I love Toast by Nigel Slater!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteSeptember temps here on the Prairie have us snuggling under the covers late at night and in the wee hours of the morning!!!Your bedspread is gorgeous! I adore your mother's suitcase used for storing linens!!! Thanks for this stunning post!
Fondly,
Pat
You have some great texture going on there, Sarah! I like your room. It is very pretty! What kinds of crafts will you be making while the kids are @ school???? ;P
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, you're showing off your lovely suitcase again - you know how I love it. Our equivalent is still festering in the loft - I've got to rescue it.
ReplyDeleteOoooh looking forward to major craft activity. xx
Sarah
ReplyDeleteYour home is so serene looking. Not to mention tidy!!
I thought I was doing quite well with my de-cluttering process until I visited your post and realize I have a long ways to go.
Blessings-Kimberly
I love the color of that bedding. Really cozy. I believe texture play a huge part in decorating. Without it, it's seems rather flat and cold.
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is so cozy, I don't know how you get out of bed each day :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love your bedroom retreat. It looks so cozy and soothing. Like a country inn I'd love to stay at someday.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely master bedroom. (Maybe the photographer could take a lesson from you.) Who wouldn't want to cuddle in all that texture.
ReplyDeleteI love fall, too. Even Chicago has cooled down. We went from 95 degrees in the day to one day later being 55 degrees at night. Delicious coolness.
What are you crafting . . . can't wait to see it.
Blessing on your kiddos at school.
Fondly,
Glenda
I love your style, what a cozy bedroom!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
A really lovely bedroom with such a unique selection of colours. They give a real outdoors feel while still remaining light and airy - well done!
ReplyDeletePlus, I couldn't help seeing the Timothy Keller book on the side table - I've heard he's really good and seeing that photo is making me want to listen to him!
Your bedroom is lovely, very cozy and love the texture you have there. Thanks so much for adding your link to Beach Cottage Good Life Wednesdays.
ReplyDeleteI love your bedroom- so soothing and peaceful and relaxing!! Thanks for sharing it at my party!! :)
