The Holiday bathroom-off
{like Face-off, right? Right?.....}
must be the ultimate test of form over function.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE character in houses, it provides warmth like nothing else but would I choose Rosehill Cottage's squeezily small bath when I could have that incredible room in Amanda's American house?
No.
Just look at those incredible storage cupboards.
All those fluffy white towels.
The view.
The space.
I adore that bathroom.
So why do I keep coming back to the English Country bathroom at Rosehill Cottage?
The sloping ceiling;
the hideously dangerous wall lamp
{gotta love English eccentrics and our crazy electrics....
though I should point out it's completely illegal}
the pewter finish of the roll top bath,
those taps.
However, there's no two ways about it.
I am a stretch-out-in-the-bath girl.
There's just no way I could put up with that itty-bitty bath.
A veritable dilemma.
Never fear, though, I have a plan.
We can turn the bath sideways along the sloping wall.
I do realise that the comedy moment of Cameron Diaz squished into the teeny tiny bath would be gone but I think we can live without the laffs for the sake of a full sized tub to fill with copious amounts of deliciously-scented bubbles.
Have you ogled the rest of this The Holiday series?
And then, on Wednesday,
the luscious living rooms.
Modern or Country?
Which will YOU choose?
Aaaarrghh, I can't wait!
there is no doubt i wish the bathtub at the cottage was bigger, but aesthetically, it is definitely more loved by me!
ReplyDeleteim loving the tiny one...its more me. or maybe because our tub is being squished in by a slanted wall too:)
ReplyDeleteRosehill Cottage every time! It sooooo cute and pretty, so much so that I think I could live with my feet hanging over the edge! I love the little cottage window too!
ReplyDeleteI love Rosehill Cottage and that movie! The American bathroom is really something else though!!
ReplyDeleteI love Rosehill too!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
I love the American bathroom best, because of it's size, but I adore the character seen in the tiny English bath. It is larger than my bathroom in my 1927 cottage, so I would not complain.
ReplyDeleteA very fun series, my dear English friend.
Love and hugs, Cindy
I think its time to watch that movie again! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the looks of both, but would be frustrated in the first tub..lol
How are you?
Miss you!

I know what you mean about the size of the tub, but that room does have a gorgeous cocoon-y feel about it. I can't help feel that the american one, however deluxe, has a strangely sterile, mega-pukka private hospital feel about it - maybe spa is more what I mean, whichever it lacks the cosy for me and also perhaps a bit too on-view-to-the-neighbours with those huge french windows!! Fun series Sarah. BXX
ReplyDeleteI am increasingly discovering that I like small things . . . small spaces.
ReplyDeleteDo neither of these bathrooms have a shower?
Fondly,
Glenda
ps. So glad you got your correct book ordered.
Rosehill Cottage looks a tiny bit too chilly for me...although I love the exposed brickwork, the bare floors don't to it for me...love the bathtub though...I'm favouring the US pad...
ReplyDeleteThe big modern room for me!
ReplyDeleteNo squishy tubs for me, please. I would choose comfort any day. :)
ReplyDeleteGosh! Once more I wonder if our minds are somehow connected. First thing I thought was " I would turn the bathtub" and then I read you had the same idea... I have to turn the bathtub in my own tiny bathroom... in 2023 probably. Thanks for your very nice message on my blog...
ReplyDeleteOh this is a difficult one! I love them both for completely different reasons... the gorgeous character of the cottage tub - oh it's cozy and lovely and has so much rustic charm... but the big American one - good god, I couldn't imagine having that much space! Swoon!
ReplyDeleteGreat series ;) x
As I am only 5 ft tall (em, short) I wouldn't mind the Rosehill bath at all!!So cosy and full of character. God bless x
ReplyDeleteThis is fun because The Holiday is my favorite movie of all time...and I would choose every room at the cottage over Amanda's house...every room, every detail. Well, except for maybe the pool which I'd add to the cottage. :)
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a tie for me. I love them both!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely with you on this one. LOVE that cool, modern bathroom!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteI adore the cottage bath. I had a tub similar to that in our early years of marriage in a sloped apartment in Maryland! Oh, how I could lie for hours in that tub!
Fondly,
Pat
Amanda in that tub is a riot!! But I do love this bathroom the best. I'm cozy all the way {and short}.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Rosehill Cottage gets my vote!
ReplyDeleteOoooo! I have to say that I would take the cutesy cottage bathroom but with a larger bath (basically I shall steal your choice Sarah!)
ReplyDeleteOh, I want a bath now!
L x
I love Rosehill Cottage but I agree, I would turn the tub. As much as I adore the charm and beauty, there are certain conveniences that I enjoy...electricity, plumbing are important. So yes, I agree with you that turning the tub would be the best of both worlds.
ReplyDeleteFun post!
I don't think I could get myself up out of that tub, but I do so love that bathroom.
ReplyDeleteCameron Diaz looks hilarious in that tub. The English bathroom makes me feel so very cold with that stone wall whereas the American on has all that warm natural sunlight besides the space. I have to go American.
ReplyDeleteLove Rosehill cottage, it tickles all my English buttons BUT Amanda's bathroom is very Modern Country and I have to go with that one
ReplyDeleteI love character in houses, and I'm often willing to sacrifice function for form, but a bathroom needs to be functional. I also really love having a spacious bathroom--it feels so soothing and luxurious. So I would have to pick the American one.
ReplyDeleteTough choice here. I LOVE both, eccentricities, and all! However, I'd opt for Amandas bathroom. The selling point in a home for me is the tub, natural light, a view no matter how expansive or small. In fact, I live part time in Myrtle Beach and my little apartment there won me because of the bathrooms. Sadly, they are much nicer than my house up here in "Narnia". Either way... i just love this series of posts from you. Very fun!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Shanna

I like to wallow, it would have to be the US version I am afraid. A sit up bath would drive me potty eventually.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to watch that movie this coming weekend. Love it and love Amanda's bath best. Who wouldn't want all that room and a tub that all of me would fit into? Happy Thanksgiving sweet Sarah!
ReplyDeleteYou funny girl :)
ReplyDeleteLiving with an uber-practical man has rubbed off on me so for me in this case, practicality wins out over charm. Dreaming of all the things I could do with all that space in a bathroom!
Meera xx
That bath tub is made in England by Albion, is called Tubby Torre and costs $4075 delivered. I am building a log cabin and thought it would be just right until I found out the price. Then I thought maybe I could sell shares in it for $10 so when you came to visit you could feel comfortable taking a bath. But that would mean I'd need 400 friends and I'm pushed to find 4 friends and none on them wanted to subscribe. Then I thought is might be the location on of the tub. Anything that expensive and that attractive should be in the living room so when you came to visit I would say, "May I take your coat and would you like a bath".
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have any suggestions here?
Ann
I had a good laugh at your "English and crazy electric" comment. Haaaa! Aesthetically <- not sure if that's a word, but the cottage bathroom is more appealing to me. Truth be told, as much as I love cottage style, I'm not sure I could deal with that tiny tub. So, my vote is for the American bath tub all the way!
ReplyDeleteLovely weekend to you Sarah!
