The Miracle Of Changing The Exterior Of Your Home

Front After
Front Before

Okay, yes, this house had plenty going for it in the Before photos
(namely, it's pretty dang big) but look! Look at what they did to it!

Back After
Back Before

If you live in a street like the one where this is, which was apparently filled with Edwardian beauties, while the 'before' house stuck out like a sore thumb, or in a street with houses from a number of different periods, then the opportunities for you to create exactly the look you want are absolutely endless.

Getting it right is all in the details.
So much care has been taken to get the look on all counts:

While I love the Edwardian exterior of our house, as I said on Monday, there's PLENTY to do. This site gives me so much hope that it's possible to get exactly the results I'm looking for.

One more peek at this beauty? Go on then...

  1. So important! This is one area where I always feel totally lost, so I made sure we found a house that was already pretty nice looking from the outside. Can't wait to see what you do!

  7. That house was an improvement, but a lot of the other examples from that site were transformations that could have been done with a little more respect. One example where they tore out the 20s windows and installed hideous monsters instead. I think you can gain a lot of curb appeal with a nicely maintained garden and some love. Have fun!

  10. Wonderful! I especially like the back. The larger windows will let in more light, and the conservatory is much more charming.

  14. Swoon, swoon! Wow, what a beautiful house that is. I wish our exterior transformation was going to be that good but there is a limit with a 1960s semi-detached! Look forward to seeing your transformation. Mx

Today it is a beautiful spring day in Chicago ... but still a little too early to start gardening.

  19. Incredible the difference something like that makes. We are renting (living where we do for hubby's work), so I can't renovate, but I have permission to do with the garden as I please. I'm really looking forward to more inspiration from MCS. :)

  31. What a gorgeous home and I love all the landscaping around it as well. We so desperately need to do something with both the front and back of ours, hoping this is finally the year we take our fingers out!! lol xxx

  32. Love the changes they made!!! Will take another look at how I can upscale my house. I so agree ~ it's all in the details. A couple summers back I got a new and lovely garage door that had the curved windows across the top because my garage door opening is curved. It was pricey, but what a difference it made to the looks of the house. Now, I've noticed similar changes in the neigborhood. It's nice to know people notice and even copy.

  35. The house seems more satisfactory with the improved look. To be honest, looking at the previous exterior makes me feel that something’s lacking. And I guess the new portico and the roof trim, especially the roof trim, have to take most of the credit for this reno. :D -->Leif
