I'm not even sure how to find the words to describe childbirth. The helpless feeling of having to endure wave after wave of the full effects of the almighty force in your body can feel extraordinarily frightening. For a short time, though it seemed like an eternity, I felt like a caged animal as I struggled to manage the hideous levels of pain at the peak of labour, coupled with the exhaustion of staying awake for such a long period.
But then....
But then......
Our darling daughter Sophie was born
and delivered straight into my outstretched arms.
Warm, wet and adorable.
The memory of it makes me want to cry.
Safe.
Soft.
Healthy.
Loved.
Who could truly ask for any more?
To see her sweetly innocent face,
newly emerged,
staring up at us,
formed out of our love for each other:
my love for her daddy,
and his incredible love for me,
was the best moment of my life.
Beautiful post. My oldest is 28 years old, and having her (and all my children) is one of those memories that will be forever in my soul & makes me tear up every time I think of it. Enjoy her!!

A beautiful tribute to you as parents and Sophie. My eldest is 23 and she's just celebrated her birthday - I remember it like yesterday, every minute, every painful beautiful detail. Wishing you and your family much blessings as you get to know your daughter. Sharon x
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Congratulations! Your story gave me chills, and brought tears to my eyes. What a truly beautiful family> God bless.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. About all of it (well maybe except the caged animal bit ;) more like a floundering fish out of water for me). It's been 2 weeks today since our precious little bundle arrived, and I am still in awe by the perfection I see created in his little fingers, eyelashes, lips and the little expressions that pass across his face during the day.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations beautiful girl. Go revel in all that is your precious Sophie.
Blessings!
