The Jubilee Ethos

Hey there, sweets,

We're having the most wonderful Jubilee weekend.


Yesterday, we went to a street party.
{The Queen said she would have been there 
but was having a slightly busy day.}


Singing 'Rule Brittania', 
waving our Union Jack flags, 
sheltering under pushed-together gazebos from the steady drizzle,
whilst children played,
and grown-ups laughed, 
encapsulates all that I completely adore about being British.

    Wow!! The streets look so grand dressed up in the flags! Must have been a spectacular day to celebrate with a street party!! ;)

    How exciting for you! We knew some people that lived in England for a while, and they said Brits thought Americans odd/amusing for how much much we loved our country. Didn't make sense to me considering how much Brits seem to like being British! Your thoughts?

    I think the British way of showing admiration for our country is by generally talking over the weather...and then revealing their full patriotic colours on occasions like this!!

    So disheartening that it rained yesterday -- on the flotilla (the poor Queen in all that damp and wet! She's a trooper though!), on the street parties...but what a sense of pride and community and togetherness in celebration. Something we'll never see again in our lifetime.

    It's certainly the year to celebrate being British. Shame about the weather, but even that is being typically British.
    The sense of occasion was mesmorising. It's something even my kids are unlikely to see in their lifetime again. A special time indeed. :)

    She really is a pretty 'queen' even if she is in her 80's... her eyes look gentle and kind.

    My husband treasures his family pictures from the carraige ride the Queen took to her coronation.
    God save your Queen and grant her many more happy years.

    We were all British this weekend. Even if far-away California.

    What a brilliant weekend. It was lovely to see so many people on the streets of London cheering for our Queen.

    Thanks so much for posting this! It makes me feel closer to "home". Although I have lived in Canada my whole life (born in Kettering , UK) I was brought up very British. So I always feel a slight pang when I see such wonderful images. Maybe that's why I love Red White and Blue so much!!
