Country Kitchen: Rule Number one

Hey there, honey pie,

Yesterday, I showed you some of
Weren't they gorgeous?
And, now, here's the bit where I start to share
how I put the Country into our Kitchen.

My first Country Kitchen Rule is this:

If you're going to have clutter,
then make it beautiful clutter.

Not beautiful in an aesthetic way necessarily
but beautiful in meaning.

Things that make you feel good.
Things that make you smile.
Things that make you happy.

And if those things look great
too then so much the better.

When I want to bake or brown or braise {or burn!},
I want to have things around me that I love to look at.
I want any clutter to be homely.

My favourite recipe books.
Our mugs waiting to be filled with hot chocolate and whipped cream.
A glass jar that belonged to my mother.
A wool felt heart.

All these help to combine to make
our Kitchen feel like home to me and my family.

And what about rule number two.....?
Comin' up....

I'll be linking with some of my favourite parties in the sidebar.

  2. This is a great rule Sarah and I do soooo agree!
Being near the things that mean so much to you brings lots of happy thoughts and memories!

  4. Sarah what a great idea - old rolling pin that used to be my Mother's together with 2 old pie dishes that belonged to my Grandma, are now coming out. I feel so close to them when I use them and they are usually stashed away. No more!

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and it should have some heart IN it.

Well said that lady! Designer kitchens are all very well, but nothing beats that feeling of everyone congregating in the kitchen around good home cooked food.

    Have a great weekend.X

  10. it's sooooo cozy, Sarah!

i keep meaning to bring up this subject with my English blogmates: did you know that HOMELY has an entirely different meaning here in the states? when a house feels warm and cozy, we call it HOMEY. but when a person is plain/uglynot so cute, they are referred to as "homely."

i love your new tabs! HUGS, HOMIE.

  13. It's not home if you don't have things that make it feel homey.

  14. Hey sweet friend! How you could ever refer to any of those lovely items as "clutter" is beyond me! Every element is just so perfectly fitting for your warm and welcoming kitchen and I adore the mugs all lined up in a row. Wish I could come and take one down to have some tea with you! :-) I'm just catching up from being on vacation this past week and this was my first place to come and visit!

  15. I like my kitchen
    counters fairly
    sparse, but do fill
    up window ledges and
    the bits against the
    wall with either
    essentials or items
    that sing to me, too.
    Love your scale : )
