Open Shelving Serving Suggestion Numero Uno

Open Shelving........Shall we get to the nub of the matter?
D:U:S:T

{Truthfully, have you ever seen the word
made to look so prettified?!}

And not just any old dust.
Greasy grimy dust.

Not nice. But true.

It's certainly an obstacle.
But by no means one that's
insurmountable.

When we were planning our Open Shelving for the kitchen, my ponderings brought me along this line of thinking and I came up with some rather lovely ways round the problem.

Wanna hear?
If the answer's yes then gaze intently at your screen....
are you looking extra-stunning just for me?

Just what I like to see.......
;-)

I'll start with the easiest rule:
if you're wanting the look of open shelving
but can't bear the cleaning then consider glazed units.

Doesn't this picture look GORGEOUS?

I love it.

Did I mention gorgeous?
Did I mention glazed units?

Mmmm.....

  4. I do love that picture. That cabinet is amazing, and I am currently addicted to grey, white and brown together. Mmmmmm. Fabulous! I think that dust is less of a problem is you reserve open shelving for items you use regularly.

  8. That was precisely my question! Now how to get around cleaning the glass. I should probably get up and clean the glass on my units.

  9. Hmm! Love this picture and I also love open shelving and have a bit myself. You are right, it does get dusty and grimy, but it's the price you pay if you like this look. But saying that, glassed in shelving is equally gorgeous, and maybe a much better idea. Beautiful Sarah! Leahx

  14. Hi Sarah,
I adore that glazed unit, in fact the whole dining room is fabulous looking! That is why I did not go with open shelving, I dust too much as it is. I would rather have my goodies behind glass. How are you with your open shelving, does it get terribly dusty?
I've been missing you, girl, haven't seen you around much.

  15. That's a great idea if you don't want actual open shelves. The room is absolutely stunning!

I must say that I was so happy & stunned when I received a comment from you on my blog - who knew that such a Superstar Blogger as yourself would stop by and comment...thank you so much! You're a class act.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Hugs,

  16. LOVE that! I think that really is the ideal solution. I love open cabinets but feel pretty happy with my glass front ones too...you can't see the dust unless you are right up close to it and I don't let anyone get right up close to them! :-)

  20. Hello Sarah

Good for you: I don't think anyone else has actually brought up the problems with dust and dirt on open shelving. I love them but they make a lot of work. So, the cabinet you show today is a beautiful and practical solution.
