THE REVEAL: Our Modern Country Girls' Bedroom

You know what it's time for now, my darlings, don't you?
The full reveal of our
Modern Country Style girls' bedroom!

Yes, it's finally here!

What do you think it is that gives this room its
Modern Country interior?

I'd say the Country elements come from the use of:
 gentle florals,
wooden furniture,
stripped flooring
and bunting....

.... while the Modern edge comes from working within a very restrained palette of pink, white and warm, golden wood, limited pattern and creating an atmosphere of uncluttered calm {only possible by allowing for LOTS of storage in the bedroom!}.

It's the way both the Modern and the Country elements combine that make this room feel so deliciously Modern Country!

Would you like to see how we got here?

It all started with this:

Photo form before we moved in!

It was one, very large bedroom, which was originally the Master Bedroom of the house: except we're now transforming the top floor of the house into our Master Suite so this room was a bit of a nothing-y space.

Our solution was to split this room into two, each with a window of its own. The unusual L-shape created by the large bay window made this work fantastically well. In fact, the new layout somehow feels as though it was 'meant' to happen, as though the house was calling for it, if that makes sense.

It was initially home to our twins when they were teeny-tiny but then the time came to create our first Modern Country gorgeous girls' bedroom..... {cue jumping for joy!}

The girls' room isn't large, a small double at best, so my vision was to design their bedroom to feel soft and enveloping. Cosy but peaceful. I didn't want any one area of the room to catch attention, but for the space to blend into one seamless whole, each section luring the eye onto the next.

On Wednesday, I'll do a full breakdown of where we sourced each of the main items in the room, as I've had lots of queries throughout the series. If you have a specific question that's been burning away in your mind then do let me know in the comments section, or by email.

Bunting In Our Girls' Bedroom

I had to wait a long, looooong time before I stumbled on this gorgeous bunting. What do you think? Was it worth the wait?

Some might have called me unbelievably picky when I was on the hunt for bunting suitable for our girls' bedroom. It had to be juuuuuuuuuust right. Not too colourful, and not too bold, plus the pattern had to tie in with the bedding, lampshade and curtains

It was a toughie, let me tell you! I searched high and low....

....and nearly squealed with excitement when I finally spotted this lovely long length brand new on eBay. It has such a pretty design. The bunting is very plain colour-wise: simple white cotton printed on both sides with soft florals and stripes in dark pinky-red.

On Monday, I'll be revealing our Modern Country Girls' Bedroom in its entirety....eeeek!

In the meantime, have a wonderful, wonderful weekend.

Bunting In Girls' Bedrooms

There's something so cheerful and upbeat about bunting...that's why I love it.

And that's also why, at times, {shock, horror} I also loathe it.

Am I the only one in the world?

Just because it's shaped like bunting, doesn't automatically make it beautiful. I find can look gaudy and brash if it's not quite right, which, I know, has it's place, but it's not what I wanted in our girls bedroom.

I hunted high and low for exactly the right bunting for the bedroom.
Gentle, sweet, feminine and classic was what I was after.

Did I find the bunting of my dreams?

Ooooh, yes!!

Will I be sharing on Friday?
You betcha...!

Creating Perfect Curtain Poles...

I'm very excited to be over at Relics of Witney's blog today,
where you can find more about how to get these solid wooden finials and poles...

to look like this painted-and-gilt-creamed curtain pole...

How beautiful do they look now, eh?!

Getting a gorgeously bespoke finish this way isn't as hard as you might think....and considerably cheaper than other options too!

In December, Relics of Witney will be showing a step-by-step guide about how gilt cream can give you Christmassy va-va-voom...so don't forget to subscribe!

Now, I'm off to prepare some yummy food for warming our tummies as we watch some more fireworks tonight!

Colour Study: Farrow and Ball's New White

Farrow and Ball New White is the colour of this gorgeous lamp. An absolutely perfect match for the original coating of this White Company beauty.

New White is described by Farrow and Ball as 'lighter and warmer than the much used Off-White. An ideal white for use with some of the brighter colours'.

I must confess that I'm not entirely familiar with Off White and, as such, for the sake of this post, I'm going to assume you share my ignoramousness and tell you what New White is really like.

Farrow and Ball's New White is most certainly in the clutches of white (as opposed to pale yellow, or soft taupe) but has a definite creamy vibe.

This particular Farrow and Ball paint is not at all stark, and lacks any modern-minded coolness. Instead, New White evokes a soft, country feel, which makes it the perfect off-white to tone with the gently mellow decor of our girls' bedroom.

By going to the Gorgeous Paints tab at the top of Modern Country Style (see it up there?), you can browse my Colour Studies at your leisure. Or, takes the lazy girls' route and get click-happy with the links below...

ALL the Colour Studies are of colours that I've used {and loved} myself. Included are lots of images of each paint in lots of different situations and lots of different lights to give you a really full understanding. No one likes nasty paint surprises, do they?

For example, look how different New White looks when the sky outside is drab and overcast...

Almost all its creaminess disappears.

Or when the lamp is switched on....

Suddenly it becomes very ivory indeed.

Farrow and Ball's New White is one of those classic creamy whites that will never date, offend or strain the eyes. Enjoy!
