Farrow and Ball New White is the colour of this gorgeous lamp. An absolutely perfect match for the original coating of this White Company beauty.
Farrow and Ball New White |
New White is described by Farrow and Ball as 'lighter and warmer than the much used Off-White. An ideal white for use with some of the brighter colours'.

I must confess that I'm not entirely familiar with Off White and, as such, for the sake of this post, I'm going to assume you share my ignoramousness and tell you what New White is really like.

Farrow and Ball New White |
Farrow and Ball's New White is most certainly in the clutches of white (as opposed to pale yellow, or soft taupe) but has a definite creamy vibe.

This particular Farrow and Ball paint is not at all stark, and lacks any modern-minded coolness. Instead, New White evokes a soft, country feel, which makes it the perfect off-white to tone with the gently mellow decor of our girls' bedroom.

By going to the Gorgeous Paints tab at the top of Modern Country Style (see it up there?), you can browse my Colour Studies at your leisure. Or, takes the lazy girls' route and get click-happy with the links below...
ALL the Colour Studies are of colours that I've used {and loved} myself. Included are lots of images of each paint in lots of different situations and lots of different lights to give you a really full understanding. No one likes nasty paint surprises, do they?

For example, look how different New White looks when the sky outside is drab and overcast...
Farrow and Ball New White overcast |
Almost all its creaminess disappears.

Or when the lamp is switched on....

Suddenly it becomes very ivory indeed.

Farrow and Ball's New White is one of those classic creamy whites that will never date, offend or strain the eyes. Enjoy!

Hi Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer this creamy white to off-white. Gorgeous kitchen and great lamp!!
best, Duni x
I love this shade; very pretty!
ReplyDeleteJust what I need to paint a couple of bookshelves in our spare room. Have a great weekend Sarah x
ReplyDeleteI love the soft country feel of this white. Very warm and inviting.
ReplyDeleteLaura
I'm going to nuy a sample of that white tomorrow. I haven't tried it yet and I'm looking for the "right white" for my kitchen... Thanks for the "study" with very inspiring pictures.
ReplyDeletei think it's a winner, and i love it on this lamp!
ReplyDeleteyou crack me up btw.

In West Sussex I painted my whole house Farrow & Ball Lime White and it looked wonderful - when i moved to California and got some at vast expense it was completely wrong with the light here, just looked dirty. Stark white looks far better, in fact I've changed all my favorites here, horses for courses.
ReplyDeleteLove this new white! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHolly
I love the softness of this white. It's so calming and lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis is a LUSCIOUS off white...love it.
ReplyDeleteNow, I am thinking, since I've never seen it here, that the paint you mention is not sold in this country.
Bet I could match it, tho, with other good paint brands.
I love it !!!!....happy weekend Darling .....love Ria...xxx..
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteYour "New White" appears to be much like my all time favorite from Sherwin~Williams...Paperwhite! When I was looking for this perfect, creamy, white shade...I remember describing what I was looking for as "melting vanilla ice cream"!!! The young man helping me hit the nail on the head!!! Love your New White hue, too, dear friend!!!
Fondly,
Pat
You would think white is white, but definetly not. I love this white it feels very serene. Happy weekend my dear Sarah!
ReplyDeleteWith this post you reminded me of this quote:
ReplyDelete"“Never use pure white; it doesn't exist in nature.” -- Aldro T. Hibbard"
I'd rather have this white you post than the pure white. More soothing and comfortable this way.
Thank you for sharing!
The last time I went shopping for white paint I was shocked at how many whites there were. Who knew there could be so many variations of white !
ReplyDeleteAnd it is rather funny how they change the names of colors to keep them up-to-date and in vogue. :D
White is so hard to choose for myself.I have went for real bright and then a creamier white.Loving this white to bad I have already started painting the inside of my house.
ReplyDeleteAll the links to all the other colors are great too!
~Cheers Kim
This is perfect - thanks for sharing, as I have been looking at shades of white for my new home...
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
It's so beautiful! I just love your color studies Sarah, and your photography is so nice!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteHOW LOVELY to see your visit yesterday! THANK YOU! AND I love pure white. For the longest time, I had many things in off white, including my walls. But last year, we built two new rooms and painted them FROST white. What a difference in the feel. I just painted my writing studio this summer in frost white as well and the crisp look is addicting. To my husband's chagrin, I now want to paint my living room in frost and even the KITCHEN!
LOVELY POST and many thanks for your time. Anita
Interesting how the light makes such a difference. I hope you and your family are all keeping well, they must keep you busy.
ReplyDeleteSo many shades, how can a person choose?
ReplyDeleteI recently painted my cabinets a bright white and I love the way it looks in the kitchen.
Stop on over and visit! :)
Gentle mellowness is exactly the kind of description I would use for New White. It's the kind of colour that makes you want to sigh out loud and then take a little nap!
ReplyDeleteSo happy you visited my Blog. Particularly love the room with the light pine door... dreamy! I have been browsing around your blog and in answer to your leather chairs question, love the look but don't like sitting in them, sticky to sit on in the summer, slip off them in winter and can never snuggle in so easily to them, would always choose fabric myself having tried them in other houses. Just back from a trip home to the UK so lots of photos to share soon. Hugs, Catherine x
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for a shade like this to paint the extension with...Thanks to your post, I will be picking up a sample pot!! Thank you xx
ReplyDeleteLove F&B!
ReplyDeleteLove this white....

Love you, Miz

It's a gorgeous soft, warm shade of white. I'm a fan of Farrow and Ball paint (even though some of the names of the colours are sometimes unusual!)

ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI've only discovered your blog the last few days and I love it!!
I'm thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets new white and would love to know what colour green is on the island in the photo above - any ideas? Can't decide which F&B green would go best with it.
Huge thanks, Emma
