I've
long had a thing for Modern Country attic bedrooms. Whether they are the result of a full-scale loft conversion, or simply the delicious remnants of sloping-roofed servant's
quarters from days-gone-by, there is SO much scope for attic-bedroom chic. Modern Country means warm, cosy and restful. Yes, although attic bedrooms need careful treatment, they can ooze serious comfort and charm.
Here's my pick of the best of Modern Country attic bedrooms.....
I so often hear attic bedrooms being spoken of in negative terms. A number of my clients have talked about having less usable floor space, having to duck to avoid cracking heads on lower ceiling heights; all credible complaints....but it really is worth having another look at your attic bedroom if you're lucky enough to have one.
Attic bedrooms are a huge opportunity to create an absolute Modern Country bedroom haven away from the hustle an bustle of the lower floors; a grown-up sanctuary.
For example, there is very often the opportunity to expose beams, which instantly adds character; not to mention all the quirks of the little nooks and crannies that the angled roof-line creates.
If you are a fan of planked walls then the attic bedroom space is the perfect place to have a play with this look, either using rough timber to play up the rough and ready rustic charms, or by going down the route of fresh white tongue and groove. Try laying this horizontally for a New England twist.
If you plan to sleep in your Modern Country attic bedroom (and why wouldn't you, eh?), then you'll need careful consideration given to window treatments. Loft conversions usually have angled VELUX windows parallel to the roof-line. These are a brilliant way of bringing in masses of light in a way that appears unobtrusive from the outside but the usual curtains won't hang properly. Consider shutters or curtains poles at the top and bottom of the VELUX window.
Do you remember our Modern Country loft-conversion bedroom, up in our attic space? I'll be sharing how we've got round all the potential difficulties to create the attic-chic bedroom of my dreams in the next post.....
