How To Look Behind The Prettiness Of Christmas Photo-Shoots For Inspiration

Hello gorgeousnesses,
Welcome to the first in the new series:
Getting Your Home Ready For Christmas.

Today's post is not what you think.

At first glance, it might look all about the lovely pictures and, in a way, you'd be right, but actually, that's not at all the main point.

No, today is the first of several posts about how to look BEHIND the prettiness of magazine shoots and to be able to identify what it is that makes them so eye-candy-worthy, in order to take inspiration for your own home this Christmas-time.

Let's take a look at these gorgeous images from The White Company.

Lush, no?

But what is it in the way this house has been styled that allows the products to shine so wonderfully?

Just take a peek.
Can you see ANY unintended clutter?
Nope, thought not. Not one jot.

Of course, this is a photo-shoot and thoroughly unrealistic for every day family life BUT there's plenty you can do with your home to fight against the tide of clutter.

Every single item in these photos is gorgeous. I'm afraid the same can't always be said for our home (laundry for a family of seven anyone??!)....

Yes, we've ALL got stuff that needs hiding....
what's needed is a solution that's pretty AND effective.....

And I've got just the thing....

On Thursday, I'll be sharing one of my favourite tips from our home....

We are only a family of 5 but I NEED your advice! Have spent all morning cleaning & tidying but I'm still a long way from photo-shoot tidyness! XX

I have a lively family of "just" 4 and more than a perfect photo shoot I want a perfect celebration...

My home is per si tidy. My boy is grown up and has always been a perfect Prince and my messy daughter is in those teen years "my room in my castle. enter at your own risk" ahahah but gets a grip for holidays. Now if I could have help in choosing the decor they could rank as my favorite children ;) LOL

Some tips from Auntie Sarah will be taken in consideration this year ahahahah

Thank you so much for sharing!

bwah-ha ha ha! Oh Sarah...you are funny.
'unintended clutter'...he he he...that made me laugh! I don't think any of my clutter is intended...it's all UNintended. Every pile and shovel full. I take pictures and am getting ready to hit 'publish'...and look again "What? Where did that come from?"
And I no longer have a family of 8...living here cluttering things up!
Can't wait for tips from you.

So pretty Sarah...I would love a home like this. Baby steps, and perhaps one day... :) For now, I will just try to keep the clutter under some kind of manageable control. lol

It's Monday I do a clean through and put the house back together after the weekend, every week. I don't think I can wait till Thursday, plus when you have helped me make my house look more beautiful please give me some tips on coping with laundry, there are only four of us, but it is like and avalanche every week, day in day out,

I loved these photos and thought your comments were encouraging. I get distracted by the surface lushness of all the lovely Thanksgiving and Christmas photo shoots, but you've given me some insight into how to look deeper, to see what it is about the room that lets the decorations shine. I'm finally discovering in my old age that decorating can't carry a room unless the basics of a tidy, comfortable space are already in place.

So many beautiful images filled with fabulous ideas! I love it!

My problem is that when I decorate I have to find places to hide all of the things I am displacing!

Have a wonderful day and thank you for sharing your beautiful photos!

I am SO after some of those white paper baubles for this year. Any ideas where they come from? Do The White Company sell them or have they been found from another source?
Just altogether beautiful.
I think this Christmas we are sitting on packing boxes around a packing box table!!

Love the inspiration you've posted here! You're right though, real life clutter is inevitable and I am alarmed at how much laundry we have to do now there's a baby in the house... can't quite imagine the amount of laundry a family of 7 might have! :-)
