The Vintage Suitcase: A Homage

(Errr....I feel I should add that this is intended to be taken as a parody....)

Vintage suitcases, how do I love thee?

 Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with a passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Oh no! Now I too love vintage suitcases! I'll have to keep my eye out. I really love them as a bedside table. The office in a suitcase is so funny too.

Funny thing I do not own a vintage suit case. Joe may have one in one of his endless sheds...must look. Love the desk constructed from them!

Dear Sarah, You have breathed new life into the antique suitcase with this posting.

I really feel that piles of old baggage heaped in a hallway are just too déjá vue. But, you have shown so many more exciting ways in which they can be put to use that I may be inspired to drag mine out from the attic and 'do' something with them!!

FaBuLoUs!!! My favorite has to be the one at the phone! I love old suitcases too, I use them stacked as storage for material, my vintage valentine collection, and cards, etc, so many uses, and they look awesome! Great post!

Hi Sarah, I think Pauline gets her magazines from Sweden as she lived there for a number of years....the English versions I think came from Camel and Yak.
They are lovely, each page is a delight...so, off to bed soon with one of the books....bliss!

PS I have a thing for vintage trunks not suitcases...I can get more fabric in them....!

Vintage suitcases really make a statement in any room. I like the blue suitcases at the end of the bed. Never come across any that color. Great post! :) Michelle

Your post is very timely. I recently painted two vintage cases in the heirloom white and they turned out wonderful. I now have them as major focal points on a console table in my bedroom and will be putting them on my blog soon. Great pictures. It made me feel more confident about what I recently did with mine!

What a fantastic post! I love the idea of vintage luggage to not actually be used as luggage! The last suitcase is fantastic, so original and quirky. I will definately keep in mind the bedside table idea, adds a antique feel to any house.

Whether you're travelling on vacation overseas or inside your own country, you should consider acquiring one of the newer design lightweight suitcases if you need to update your luggage, if your luggage is old and broken, or if you simply want the luxury of more beautiful luggage for travel.
