Case Study: Farrow and Ball Powder Blue

This week, my flowers, I have not one, but TWO Farrow and Ball Case Studies...

If you love Farrow and Ball, Modern Country Style is sooooo the right place for you.

When I posted photos of my latest wreath
I had a bajillion emails about our front door paint colour.

The colour is Farrow and Ball's Powder Blue.
Here it is at night time.

If you're about to paint your front door, it's always worth taking the extra time to think about how much light your front door gets. Ours is south facing, which means that it gets strong sunlight all day.

Paint colours that look strong on interior walls fade into nothingness on south facing front doors. Insipid and bleurgh.
{Their official names, you understand..}

So, while Powder Blue is a stronger colour than I'd personally choose for inside the house, it was perfect choice for our front door.

{For a fuller look at choosing your perfect front door colour, check out this awesome article. Yes, it's written by me for the Relics of Witney blog, the best interiors shop in the world...ahem, in my humble opinion!!}

I wanted a very muted bluey-green for our front door.
And Farrow and Ball's Powder Blue fits the bill perfectly.

You won't find this colour on their current paint card but any of their discontinued colours that catches your beady little eyes can still be easily ordered.

When I put together a case study, I source as many pictures as possible of the paint colour, so as well as the images of our front door, here are plenty of room images featuring Powder Blue, showing what a strong colour it actually is.

If you're looking for that elusive gentle greyed-turquoise for your front door then Farrow and Ball's Powder Blue is definitely the way to go.

The one thing I brought back to Brisbane after a couple of years living in London was a Farrow & Ball colour chart, so I could match their lovely paint colours here. Love your front door.
Cheers Kylie

That is such a pretty, pretty, color! I'd like to paint my front door, which is currently stained, but I don't know if the Mister would go for that :)

Perfect color choice for your front door. I love the romantic charm it has at night. I'm always drawn to blues with a hint of green. The contrast of the stone really works. We have friends with a brick home and a teal door... It's yummy :) Our home is a white Colonial and I'm still happy with our choice of cherry red for the front door. We face south too :)

Hope your week is off to a great start ! Thanks for sharing all the gorgeousness!!!

I do love the color you chose for your front door and I need to repaint mine because mine faces the sun and is a muted nasty color.'t I don't even know which color it's supposed to be :)

Inspired by your blog we have decided to paint our weatherboard house in Blue Grey and the front door in Downpipe! so yay! Looking forward to the next installment.

We also love Light Blue but it is too dark in lounge / dining room which only has a window at one end and low ceilings. Sadly. So the hunt goes on. Feel free to offer suggestions!

Love your blog.

One of my friends has been raving about Farrow and Ball paints, now I know why!They're so much more tasteful that other paint colours.

It's amazing how much lighter the powder blue looks on your front door because of the sunlight! I'll have to bear that in mind.

Brilliant post Sarah -- as always :-)

A lovely delicate shade of blue isn't it? As you know I just painted my own front door with Pale Powder which is positively dreamy.

But I have a new F&B crush - Cord - I'm just painting my sitting room in it and its gorgeous! Have you tried it? Louise xx
