Modern Country English Stately Home Tour!

Can I let you into a secret? I really struggle to find gorgeously inspiring living rooms to share with you...So many times, I'm looking round a house and love it all....until the living room, when everything falls a bit flat for me. Today's incredibly beautiful Georgian house tour is a case in point...

I have a bit of a thing for English stately homes decorated in a Modern Country Style. Take a look around the rooms of the one I'm sharing today and see if you agree. I've included paint suggestions, during our tour, in case you'd like to try it out in your home....For this look, try Farrow and Ball Green Blue (walls) and Farrow and Ball Light Blue (woodwork).

There's just something special about this colour scheme. It has that signature pared-back look but, because of the grandeur of the house, you can somehow get away with a little more colour than you might use in a smaller house.

Try Farrow and Ball Light Blue for this softly formal look of the shelving in the library below.

Little Green Lead and Little Green French Grey will give the starker effect of this next room...

Now for the living room....brace yourself....

Really? Is that all we get? A tatty old sofa in the corner of the room? Where is the gorgeousness spilling over from the rest of the house?

I can see we're going to have to do a whole lot of digging to get into the belly of what makes the perfect Modern Country living room...

This made me laugh out loud on the train - what can those people be THINKING? Perhaps they have dogs that are allowed on the furniture...

My guess would be that this is the man of the house telling the woman of the house, this is my one chair and it is staying! Lets face it though it is usually a lazyboy not an old sofa...lol!

I wonder if the homes are so large they don't really use it and toss the cast offs in there? Oh those dreadful lazyboys!! Nothing like the lazy "boy" needs a special chair. I particularly love the ones that have cup holders. OK, I'm going off on my pet peeve hahaha.

Maybe they are just like me and they have no idea what to do with their living-room, so they just put their old sofa there, waiting for inspiration to strike?
