Kenwood Chef nostalgia.....

When I was a little girl, I can remember standing on a chair next to my mother while she was cooking. She would tell me that her mother had a Kenwood Chef and had bought one for her when she got married, and that when I was a big girl, my mother would buy one for me.

Well, now I am a big girl (!), I do have one of my own. My parents bought one for me (thank you!) when I got married. I felt very grown-up when I unpacked my Kenwood Chef and put it, in pride of place, in my very own kitchen in the first placed we lived.

If I had to rescue one thing out of my whole entire kitchen ('whole entire kitchen'? That makes it sounds as though I have about three acres of kitcheness....! Errrr.....I don't), then it would most certainly be this:

And now, when I'm with my own daughters, I tell them, when we're cooking together, the story of how Grandma's Mummy bought her a Kenwood Chef and my Mummy bought me one and how when they are big girls, I will buy them their very own Kenwood Chef.
And I'm not ashamed to say that it quite often brings a tear to my eye.

What a nice story and a great thing to share. Not only is it a tradition to buy one for your daughter but all the memories you have of your mom and grandma and all the memories that your daughters will have you. Sometimes time spent in the kitchen is the best!

I love this, my family has a similar tradition of my grandmother buying my mom, and then all of us girls kitchen aids when we get married. I grew up learning how to bake using my mom's and then as me and three other sisters have gotten married we all got one in whatever color we wanted. I picked bright red, and I love it! Thanks for sharing your story.

This is such a great story. I don't have anything like this, but that doesn't mean I can't start something with my daughters!

Happy memories in the kitchen thru the generations! I can still remember my Grandmother's "sink breath" Haha...but not hers thankfully...

What a sweet post! My daughters and I are that way about the cookie sheets that are being passed down :) The ones I have given to our daughters make them the fourth generation to use them. There's just something about their darkness that makes us feel 'at home'.

Love it! My mom had a kitchen aid (actually still has it), now I have one and so does my daughter. Many great memories have been made cooking and baking together.

It's so lovely when you have a little family tradition to pass on. I'm very sentimental like that..Rachaelxx

What a lovely story! Those small family traditions just give a sense of connectedness to other generations - I'm sure your girls will pass the tradition on as well :))

That's so true. Family traditions are really important to me. I do like the sense of continuity through generations. That you are part of something bigger.

Time spent side by side doing something in the kitchen together is so special. I have some of the best chats with my children
(and my mum!) like that.

That is just the sweetest story. Every time you bake, it must be a trip down memory lane. Love it. Such cool design too!

Love that tradition! It encourages homemaking. In the Pacific Northwest of the USA, my 3 girls and I go for Kitchen Aide stand mixers. Have had mine about 1o years and she's still goin' strong. blessings on your day, Sarah.
