Style Britannia: Kate Middleton: Part 2

Let's dive straight back into
Style Britannia: Kate Middleton;
bringing you
English Modern Country fashion
straight from the horse's mouth.
{Um, yeah, it's a metaphor.
I can hear you sniggering at the back.}

Once you've got that pair of those skinny jeans and knee-high boots we talked about yesterday that fit you perfectly
{and I still think that it's the fitting perfectly that's important, squeezing and skimming in all the right places, rather than your size or height or age}
there's a whole host of gorgeous outfits awaiting you.

Let's look at how to create the next part of a
 Modern Country Style look
a la Kate Middleton,
shall we?

What to wear on top?

The key to getting a
Modern Country Style
upper half is to keep it

  • detailed
  • dignified
  • delightful

And was that ever shown more effectively than in Kate Middleton's
wedding dress and evening attire?

Detail: check. Dignified: check. Delightful: check.
Full marks to the Duchess.

If you take a closer look at the images I've chosen today,
they're all fairly fitted but ultra feminine.

I love the
gorgeous mix of
formal tailoring with
pretty embellishments.
That's Modern Country Style, see?

The loveliness of this look comes from
presenting a subtle hint of what's underneath,
without having to bare a single thing.
{Do I hear sighs of relief all round?!}

But, at the same time,
it's not a look that in any way
fades into the background.
{Ooh no. Who'd want that?}

What I'm trying to get across is
how to take the very best from any look and
make it look fantastic on you
.....just the way you are.

It's about
making you feel good
when you wear a look that works
 - not to leave you feeling short-changed
and less-than-perfect.
{Cos, ugh, that's not a good feeling}

Take what you love from this look
and make it yours,
princess.
;-)

But, wait, are you feeling chilly?
Hold on a tick,
let me see what I can do...

Great post Sarah, yes Kate does tick all the boxes.

You are so right, Sarah, she does do young, fresh and just the right amount of sexiness without any trashiness at all - fitted, slinky even at times, but never horribly clingy or revealing. She's a clever girl and gets it totally right time after time. How she do dat?!!!

I would love to find a fantastically flattering make of jeans, the only brand I love is only available in the States, not very practical. Any suggestions, oh lovely fashionista?

That red floral dress is lovely-- and you're right-- what rings the bell is that tailored silhouette with the feminine details.

She is so very pretty-- and looks so confident and at ease-- the most enviable accessory!

Ok, skinny jeans.....check. Boots......check. I have to get my favorite black ones repaired with zipper, but I wear them so much I know it is worth it. I also have q high healed swanky version that I picked up the first time I went to brazil with the family.....red, pointy toe, suede, laxe up sides.....eeeeekkkkk! If only I hadn't done the back surgery thing or I would wear the every day all day long!
Detailed tops....need to work on that. Knitting should take care of some of those type pieces right? Am I ready to be royalty?

She is so lovely, like YOU. I really love the detailed, dignified and delightful. I believe it is the way my adorable daughters dress . . . and I am always telling them how cute they are. This is a fun series, Sarah.

Just made scones . . . want to pop next door?

Fondly,
Glenda

I can't get enough of sweet Kate. Thanks for all the style tips.

Do you know, until your guide I didn't even realise I likes Kate's style so much!!

Unfortunately, skinny jeans are not good for me, I need a bootcut or kickflare to balance out my hips....

I'm really enjoying these posts on K.M., she is such a beautiful girl and before the wedding I never knew much about her. She just looks great in anything, but it's neat how you are showing us up close so that we can do our best to "copycat".....(but I don't have her figure!!!):(

It's me said...

How many clothes shall she have??...not one picture is the same the whole week....hahaahhaha!!...o my......love Ria....xxx...

I'm with Sarah B - I love a bootcut jean, but that's not to say I can't look for the modern country look in accessories and tops!! All hail Duchess Kate! she is FABULOUS!!!

Last week on the Nate Berkus show, Louise Roe showed how to recreate some princess style (Grace Kelly, Diana, and Kate). The Kate outfit she did was the black and white lace skirt and blazer.

I am loving this series, and especially today's post. I am adamant that my girls dress modestly, and you have proven that even the most gorgeous girls can dress modestly and look GREAT. I'm going to be linking to this post soon. Thanks, Sarah!

OOOOOOOO Sarah,

I missed you today :) I got on for 10 minutes ,earlier, and never saw this. Anyway, It's been fun reading your witty posts on style. Kate has great fashion sense and does it with modesty. I think she is a good role model for young women. It's refreshing to see...
Her wedding dress was classic. I'd love to copy that last outfit. I'm all over those cute tops, too.

Hope the sun shines for you tomorrow :)

If only it were true that skinny jeans and boots flatter everyone! I love that effortless look on other women, but I'm afraid the word 'trotters' comes to mind when I think of myself in that particular ensemble. I'm just to, um, shapely! (unless teamed with a floaty mid-thigh length tunic).

She is so lovely, and you've done a great job cataloguing her look Sarah. I especially love, nay, ADORE the reception outfit, soft and cozy and elegant and regal and glamourous, all at once. Amazing!

P.S. the really funny thing about the giraffe is that we very rarely actually see her carry it around, we just find it in different spots.

for me the pashma is a must have ... skinny jeans and boots don't work on curvey short me - but give me a pashma or related wrap item and I am in seventh heaven :) le xox

I LOVE this series. Her style is so beautiful and you explanation of how to get it is great. One question, how do you pull this look off if you are a bigger size with a "heavy bottom"? Any tips?
