How To Create Belgian Style...Industrial Chic...

When looking through past posts, I came upon a series on How To Create Belgian Style and it made me remember just how much I love Belgian Style. Understated and gorgeous!

Let's take a look today at the industrial edge of Belgian Style...

Getting the balance right between old and new is the key of how to create Belgian Style in your home. Too much old and the look becomes fusty. Too much new and it loses it's country edge. 

Soft Industrial is a term I use to describe the adding of artifacts with a slight architectural feel to a living space, which add interest and character, and it works perfectly combined with Belgian Style.

It's important to emphasise here that the look is one of a gentle nod to an industrial past, rather than anything too hard-edged.

Coastal Cottage House Tour

The weather has been f-f-freezing over the past few days. We've had occasional flirts of sunshine - lulling you into fantasies of gallivanting into town coat-less...only to find that you're being entirely premature because it's still firmly winter!

So let's make the very most of these final wrapping-up-warm days by taking a virtual snoop around The Oyster Catcher. 

A simple former fishing house placed right next to the harbour in a little seaside town in West Cornwall.

The interior is a restful blend of greys and white, with plenty of natural textures to keep things interesting.

The Oyster Catcher is Grade II listed and was built in the 17th century. An oldie but a goodie!

Farrow and Ball Parma Gray: Colour Study

Remember this dresser from this Victorian conversion I shared a while back?

{As if you could forget...}

It's painted in Farrow and Ball's Parma Gray.

Yes, once again, the English company have, in their wisdom,  chosen to spell their greys the American way....

If you're shying away from all the greys and neutrals that have been flying around then Farrow and Ball's Parma Gray, despite its name, is definitely a paint to consider.

Be aware that Parma Gray is one of the biggest culprits, in my opinion, for having images that don't do it justice - sure, they look pretty, but if you buy a tin of paint based on images like this front door....

...then you're going to be disappointed. The lighting of the camera has made the image distort a little. This is what you should expect with Farrow and Ball Parma Gray on a front door...

It's listed in the blue spectrum by Farrow and Ball because in most lights, this shade most definitely shows up as a colour. Yes, it's gentle; yes, it's sophisticated. But don't go this route if it's a grey you're looking for.

And, if you can get your head around this idea, Farrow and Ball Parma Gray is a paint colour that gives the same feeling as a grey. I know that sounds odd but it gives the same elegant, restful vibe.

The only way that Parma Gray will look grey is if there is very strong, white light that will drown out the blue tones: for example, halogen lighting....

...or from strong natural light that's still cool....

...or a large flat surface, such as a floor...

...but, otherwise, expect the blue notes to shine out...

...and to contrast beautifully with chalky whites...

I think my favourite way to use Farrow and Ball Parma Gray is on furniture...

Vintage Industrial Style Kitchen From A Border Oak Home!

When I saw this gorgeous kitchen, I knew I had to share it here on Modern Country Style. 

I love it all, from the natural colour scheme...

to the industrial-chic lighting...

which helps to bring the outside in and inside out...

Modern Country Kitchen Tour....

I'm feeling thrilled to bits today. We've had some super-duper news, which I hope to be able to share with you over the coming months...and years! I'm sorry to be vague at this point but, let time tick by, and all will be revealed!

And, in the meantime, let us feast our eyes on this beautiful Modern Country kitchen, with its soft colour scheme. farrow and Ball's Old White and Farrow and Ball Downpipe would give a similar effect.
