Huge images were projected onto the Houses of Parliament.
The combination of such vibrant MODERN images with a building steeped in centuries of our COUNTRY'S history had me riveted. Compared to the rest of the show, this was definitely low-key but...
....it's in moments like these that I feel oh-so-proud to be British.
No one does pomp quite like we do.

You're so right! The history woven into that ceremony was absolutely riveting. And that nine-year-old boy singing "Jerusalem"? Oh, my goodness. What an event!

huuhhh... did that happen in my one wee break, I don't believe it - spectacular and I missed it! Might have to watch whole thing again on fast forward! It was the most extraordinary event wasn't it, my only sadness is it all happened so fast and furiously I feel I couldn't take it all in and am seeing lots of pics of details I missed. Redgrave handing the torch to the youngsters and them lighting that exquisite cauldren-torch was the moment for me I think. Still thinking about it all...
I watched the whole ceremony over here in the U.S. It was quite an event. I thought the fireworks were especially nice.

We weren't able to watch, but these screen shots are lovely. What a fun thing to host the games.
I had a lot of favorite parts ... the Queen (oh my, she rocks), Mr. Bean playing Chariots of Fire, the kids dancing on the beds in Peter Pan, Jerusalem (which always remind me of the movie Calendar Girl), the young athletes hugging their sponsers and then lighting the beautiful torch ... I am proud to have a British neighbor.
Why the expression "Good show" originated with the Brits was evident. It was on time delay on our side of the globe.
Alex Morgan (US Women's soccer) is a girl from where I live, so we have a vested interest in cheering the hometown girl.
Those pictures of Parliament are fantastic! Must be such a buzz to be in the Olympic city!
Would love to have been there... but watched with amazement from the wild west of Canada! Good job, London! I'll enjoy the games on TV.

Loved the opening ceremony and felt very very proud to call this fab country my home (being the immigrant that I am ;))! It was so wonderfully British as well - funny, weird, awe-inspiring, moving and had loads of brilliant music! Danny Boyle did us proud xxx
Awesome. I was addicted to watching the Olympics. I am now loving the paralympics. Going to miss it when it's all over.
