Girls' Bedroom: Painted Furniture

In our girls' bedroom, we had quite the quandary over whether or not to paint the furniture. This post is dedicated to five reasons to plunge for the paint.

1. Paint can lift a dark room that doesn't receive much natural light.

2. Peeling paint is a classic way to create character.

3. Using chalk paints, such as Annie Sloan, allows you to add a feeling of age to even relatively new pieces, though I'd always suggest starting with good quality furniture.

4. Paint can unite disparate collections. If you have an oddball table, paint it to tie in with something else in the room for instant unity.

5. Pristine white furniture can up the smart-factor in any room.

And for top tips and inspiration about the transformative power of paint, have you checked out my Beginner's Guide To Painting Furniture?

I love the look of painted furniture, but am reluctant to try it. Maybe if I found a thrifted piece . . .

Makes me want to paint every bit of furniture we own! What lovely examples you've shared.

What a pretty group of photos! I've always loved that one with the green bed...so much so, that I ripped it out of a magazine along time ago and saved it for when I had my own little girl. I love painted furniture too since it ties things together so nicely, but a little bit of wood in the room is always a good thing too :)

I love the pieces I've painted, for example our dated orangey-pine bed which was well-made and a great shape. It's now plain white and looks fab.
But, I confess, I would only try painting on a piece I'm ready to give up on...

I so love painted furniture! I just recently painted my 3-year-old son's mismatched bed and dresser the same blue, and I love the result! He now thinks every piece of furniture should be painted blue, like our huge new wardrobe.

I adore painted furniture.... I love how a simple coat of paint can bring together the most random of pieces! x

I love painting furniture, but have been far to lazy with my girls' twin beds. I bought them with the intention of painting them straight away - but they always seem to be sleeping on them which is a nuisance - lol!
The second to last image is taken from the house of a friend of mine - you wont be surprised to hear that she's the Beauty and Style Director of a major fashion glossy - stunning bedroom isn't it!

Sarah, these pictures of these gorgeous bedrooms are making me sad. Why? Because I no longer have little girls who would enjoy them. Boo hoo!

Could you stop with all the loveliness now, please???

Lovely pics and a most timely post as just today I decided it was time to cover the old dark wood of my apothecary chest with a soft taupe paint. So much lighter -- hooray for paint!

Such sweet rooms. It's hard to choose a favorite, I love them all.

Mmm. Love that dressingroom with the chandy, and the pic that is 4th from the bottom - especially the white/teal bed frame. It seems to stop the room taking itself too seriosly. I just told my hubby that when I have a room big enough to fit it, I am going to have a tufted ottoman. He chuckled. And now I have really made up my mind to do it! :)

I would claim any of these as my master bedroom but I'm not sure The Mister would approve :) Gorgeous collection, Sarah

Painting the furniture would be a great idea especially if you picked a color they love and would add liveliness to their room.

Oh, so pretty and cheerful. I think you are right: painted furniture can brighten, tie together, and make rooms look clean and cozy. Wood tends to add character, sturdy looking, character. Love them both. :)
