Bathroom in Farrow and Ball Light Blue Paint

Feast your tired eyes on this beautiful bathroom in Farrow and Ball Light Blue (no. 22).

Here's another bathroom which uses a remarkably similar scheme...the walls are also Farrow and Ball Light Blue, the vanity unit, floor tiles, lamps, mirrors, chandeliers are super-similar....in fact, it was only when I was writing this post that I realised they are, in fact, different bathrooms! The shower is off to the side in the bathroom below...

The twin wall lights are from Restoration Hardware. They perch either side of two large mirrors and, along with the humungous mirror by the bath, reflect the light around this long, thin bathroom, hiding its slightly awkward shape.

The carrera marble hexagonal tiles complement the subtle shades of the walls perfectly. Farrow and Ball Light Blue pairs wonderfully with natural materials.

Case Study: Farrow and Ball Light Blue (Pt 2)

Oooh, I love this colour! Time for an updated, more detailed version of my Farrow and Ball Light Blue Paint Case Study.

Farrow and Ball Light Blue
Farrow and Ball Light Blue in our home!

I receive so many enquiries week by week about the paint colour in our Master Bedroom (which is F. Light Blue) that I thought an update was well overdue!

This Paint Colour Study features our bedroom, and also other rooms I've sourced to give you the very best idea of how Farrow and Ball Light Blue plays out on the walls.

Farrow and Ball Light Blue

And not only do these Colour Studies show lots of pretty pictures (though how could that be wrong?!) but I also hope they give you a clearer impression of what you can expect when you use Farrow and Ball paint in your own home.

For example, when used on front doors, Farrow and Ball Light Blue will appear much paler - almost to the point of being an off-white....but still looks stunningly crisp paired with white woodwork.

This is also true when Farrow and Ball Light Blue is given lots of natural light....

...as long as there is good lighting. However, in dimmer lighting, and this is where it gets a little tricky to predict, even painted furniture with plenty of external angles to bounce light from looks a little moody in Farrow and Ball Light Blue...

When choosing paint colours for clients, I always consider all aspects of a room before choosing paints to avoid any nasty surprises. It's astonishing how much some colours change from the paint chart to the wall, or even from room to room. These images show what you can really expect from Farrow and Ball Light Blue...

Farrow & Ball Light Blue
Our Farrow and Ball Light Blue bedroom - I LOVE it!

Do be careful when looking online - there are plenty of mis-labelled images out there. And Farrow and Ball Light Blue is no exception. If you stumble across an image that looks extraordinarily different from any others you've seen of the same colour then chances are that it's been mis-labelled.

Muted Farrow and Ball paints are perfect for the bedroom

Farrow and Ball's paints often need to be taken with a pinch of salt and Light Blue is certainly a case in point. Yes, it is Light and yes, it does have a hint of Blue but is has SO much grey in it, as well as a touch of green that calling the colour plain old Light Blue just doesn't do it justice.

There are plenty of images out there but some seem to have distorted the colour somehow (hello, Photoshop) so I haven't included those. The images I've picked for this Colour Study are those that best represent how Farrow and Ball Light Blue actually looks to the naked eye.

A small tester square gives no hint of how beautiful this colour is. F. Light Blue builds up in intensity in the corners of a room, yet reflects the light beautifully when given a chance.

Not many colours can be cool and restful yet warm and cosy at the same time but this one can. I think it's safe to say that Farrow and Ball Light Blue will feature forever in my all time supremo favourite paint colours evah!

Our Modern Country Attic Bedroom

Attic bedrooms are the perfect place for a whole heap of Modern Country Bedroom Style. With none of the practicalities needed of the downstairs: no children's needs to take into account, no worrying about sticky fingers on the wall - thisd is a place to make all your dreams come true! I am still as besotted with our loft conversion bedroom as I was on Day One.

I wanted simplicity, cosiness and a relaxed Modern Country bedroom vibe that would make us feel as though we were coming into a whole other world when we entered the room.

I always recommend to Modern Country Style clients who have young children that they concentrate on their Master bedroom first. They're sometimes initially sceptical – most are eager to get on with the more visible rooms on the ground floor – but ALL are thoroughly convinced when I've taken them through my reasoning. You will not believe the difference that creating a perfect Modern Country bedroom to look forward to at the end of each day makes to your life. Getting a good night's sleep in a wonderfully comfortable bed, and waking up each morning to a room that makes you smile will increase your quality of life beyond belief, particularly in the delight-filled but busy years of having a young family when you need all the help you can get to relax in the evenings!

I love the beams in our attic bedroom, part of the original roof structure.

Modern Country bedroom must-haves most definitely include a bed piled with plump pillows, a sumptuously luxurious quilt and a touch of the artisan to make this space uniquely yours. The great joy of working with attic bedrooms is that they often have beautiful old beams, and interior quirks such as sloping ceilings that add enormous amounts of character and warmth.

Our silk and velvet quilt is one of my favourite Modern Country bedroom accessories.

A muted shade on the walls, in our case a gorgeously muddied grey-blue-green, which I still find jaw-droppingly beautiful, completes the room. Modern Country bedrooms are, without doubt, the place not to skimp on paint quality. This is the place where you should need no encouragement to spend time luxuriating – deliciously pared-back paint colours make all the difference in the world.

Can you ever go wrong with white bed linen in a Modern Country Attic Bedroom?

Onto more practical attic bedroom issues....windows treatments. As I said in my previous post, you have a number of options. However, we went with black-out VELUX blinds and, truly, these are one of the best choices in the whole room, in terms of sleep-quality! They keep our bedroom super-dark when we're asleep. We chose our blinds in a soft off-white (I suspected that pure white might age to grey). When they're open you don't even notice that they're there, maximising the simplicity of our Modern Country bedroom.
